Swims 18th fastest 500 freestyle ever for 15-16 year olds in the U.S. at Tom Dolan Invitational
Richmond, VA (December 13, 2012) - NOVA standout and Benedictine High School sophomore Townley Haas swam to a first place finish in the boys 500 yard freestyle at the 10th Anniversary Tom Dolan Invitational held December 6 – 9 at The University of Maryland. Haas’s swim set a new Virginia swimming record for the 15-16 year old age group and qualified him for the 2013 US Open Swimming Championships.
The time of 4:23.47 is the 18th fastest 500 yard freestyle ever for a 15-16 year old boy in the United States, according to the USA Swimming website. Townley Hass is just 15 years old.
The Tom Dolan Invitational is the Mid-Atlantic region’s largest swimming competition, showcasing qualifying swimmers from Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina, Delaware, Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
Haas scored a total of 75 points for NOVA at the meet, the second highest point total of any competitor in the Men’s Open Division. In addition to his first place finish in the 500 yard freestyle, Haas also placed second in the 1650 yard freestyle, fourth in the 200 yard freestyle, fifth in the 1000 yard freestyle, and ninth in the 100 yard freestyle.
Haas’s times in each of the five events qualify him for the 2013 National Club Swimming Association (NCSA) Junior National Championships in Orlando, Florida. Haas plans to compete for NOVA at the NCSA Junior Nationals in March 2013.
