ChiknEGG Productions, a producer of local farmers market-style events and other Ag-themed events, is collaborating with Kitchen Thyme to produce a new weekly indoor farmers market in Richmond’s West End. My Kitchen Thyme Indoor Winter Market will be on the Kitchen Thyme premises at 7801 West Broad Street in the Steinmart Shopping Center between Glenside and Parham. The market will run every Saturday, 10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m., starting December 8, 2012, and running through April 27, 2013.
ChiknEGG Productions owns and operates My Manakin Market, a large outdoor seasonal market located just five minutes west of Short Pump on Broad Street Road in Eastern Goochland County. Owner and manager Lisa Dearden has been involved with the Central Virginia food system and area farmers markets for close to eight years. ChiknEGG, has been a leader in creating innovative, beneficial partnerships between Central Virginia area farmers and the community through the many special events they’ve produced, such as farmers markets, film screenings, workshops and farm tours. In collaborating with Kitchen Thyme (a rent-by-the-hour consumer and professional commercial kitchen), ChiknEGG intends to further strengthen the Short Pump and Richmond areas’ farm-to-consumer offerings with fresh, local, seasonal food products and sustainably made artisan crafts.
ChiknEGG has hired long-time My Manakin Market volunteer and 2012 Operations Manager Tim Randolph as the “Behind the Scenes” Market Manager. Melissa Krumbien, owner of Kitchen Thyme, will provide on-site management assistance to vendors and customers on Saturday mornings.
“Kitchen Thyme is an ideal location for an indoor winter market”, says Lisa Dearden. “The space itself is gorgeous. It’s open and convenient for vendors. It has a great cooking island that lends itself to our ‘Chef at the Market’ program, so we can offer prepared foods on-site. There’s plenty of parking, and with a Weight Watchers and a Steinmart in the same shopping center, it offers the ideal location where farmers and friends can gather to support our local food system.”
Dearden and Krumbien are also hoping that the additional foot traffic will bring in new potential customers to Kitchen Thyme’s commercial kitchen for rent.
